True work-life balance: choose your days with our flexible approach
Bring your imaging skills to a team that loves what we do. You’ll work alongside vets with postgraduate imaging qualifications and caring, experienced nurses, with someone always on hand to talk a case through. Perth’s vets trust us with their trickiest cases, and owners leave feeling looked after. Then there’s sunshine, beaches and a lifestyle to call home, or even just spend a summer with us.
About us
When Perth’s vets need prompt, clear answers from diagnostic imaging, they call us. Perth Animal Ultrasound (PAUS) is a dedicated veterinary imaging service, owned and led by Dr Louise Barnett (Dr Lou), with a team of vets bringing postgraduate training and extensive experience in ultrasound and echocardiography. We work hand in hand with referring clinics across Perth, with a focus on high-quality imaging, clear communication, timely reporting and continuity of care with each patient’s own vet.
Since May, we’ve been working from our brand-new, purpose-built outpatient imaging facility in O’Connor – and it’s thriving. Our in-clinic caseload continues to grow, alongside increasing demand for our mobile ultrasound service across Perth.
We’ve deliberately stayed focused on what we do best, with experienced registered veterinary nurses, a friendly reception team, and dedicated administrative and AI-assisted reporting support, allowing our vets to spend their time where their expertise matters most: imaging, patient care and collaboration with referring veterinarians.
Our two most recent veterinary recruits, Dr Tarryn and Dr Rich (who relocated from the UK with his family), have both become fantastic additions to the PAUS team. Now, continued growth means we’re ready to welcome another great imaging vet to join them.
I really enjoy working at PAUS. The team is warm, highly collaborative and genuinely supportive, and there’s always someone to bounce a case off. The standard of practice is high, the equipment is top of the line, and there’s a real culture of continuing education. It’s a great place to build your skills and be part of a team that cares about doing things well. – Dr Tarryn Higgs
About this role
You’ll be part of a team where cases are talked through openly, questions are always welcome and everyone cares about getting it right. Every study you perform feeds directly into a patient’s treatment plan, and our referring vets and their clients rely on the clarity and compassion we bring.
We’re looking for another experienced veterinarian, ideally an advanced veterinary sonographer or a certificate-holding cardiologist. Depending on your skills and interests, your caseload could include abdominal ultrasound, echocardiography, musculoskeletal ultrasound, thyroid or ocular ultrasound, ECG and Holter assessments, radiography, and more. You don’t need to do it all – we’re equally happy to hear from someone whose passion lies predominantly in general imaging or cardiology.
We also partner with a local emergency centre to provide an outpatient CT service, so if CT is something you’re interested in, there may be opportunities to get involved there too.
The role itself can be based entirely in our O’Connor clinic, or a hybrid of in-clinic and mobile imaging at referring clinics around Perth. Full-time and part-time both work for us.
Our services keep growing, so your contribution will be felt and valued from day one. With Dr Lou’s experience mentoring ANZCVS candidates, and a wider network of advanced practitioners and specialist colleagues for case support, you’ll have real backing to keep building your skills.
About you
- You light up talking about ultrasound technique and a challenging diagnostic case
- You pair technical skill with genuine compassion for patients and their owners
- You work with integrity and stay curious, always keen to keep learning
- You’ll enjoy being part of a small team where your personality and expertise help shape our reputation
- Ideally, you’re an advanced veterinary sonographer or a certificate-holding cardiologist (for example CertAVP, MANZCVS, a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Small Animal Ultrasound, or equivalent)
- At least two years of post-graduation experience
- Diagnostic imaging internship experience is valued, but not essential

Weekends can take you to the Swan Valley wine region or across to Rottnest Island. It’s an easy place to call home, and a summer here is a great way to find that out for yourself.
Our offer
- Salary range for experienced practitioners of $120,000 to $160,000 FTE, plus superannuation
- Generous incentive scheme, including scan commissions
- Full time or part time, such as three days a week on a pro-rata basis
- Clinic-based or a hybrid of in-clinic and mobile imaging, depending on what suits you
- Transcription and administration support, so you can focus on diagnostics
- CPD allowance and access to extensive professional learning resources
- Case support from our wider network of advanced practitioners and specialist colleagues
- Relocation assistance for interstate and international candidates, including short-term accommodation
- Open to visa sponsorship, including a short-stay option that can be approved quickly
- Working Holiday Visa holders are welcome, for up to six months with us
Thinking about trying WA? Spend a summer with us, get to know the team and the lifestyle, and talk with us about longer-term sponsorship if it feels right.
If you’d like to talk through the role, the days that suit you or your package, we’d love to hear from you.
