About us
For more than 20 years, Sugarland Animal Hospital has been at the heart of the Bundaberg community, caring for pets, farm animals, and the people who love them. As one of only a handful of ASAV-accredited Hospitals of Excellence in Queensland, we set the standard for veterinary medicine in the region.
Our team is made up of 9 veterinarians and 40+ talented support staff, all united by a simple belief: that every patient deserves gold-standard care, and every team member deserves support to do their best work. We’re proud to be recognised as a Lincoln Institute Employer of Choice, a reflection of our commitment to culture, leadership, and professional development.
What makes us special isn’t just our advanced facilities (CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, surgical suites, dedicated large animal facilities) — it’s the people. We back each other up, share our knowledge, and celebrate wins together. We partner with local rescues like RSPCA and Happy Tails, and we’ve built a reputation for being thorough, compassionate, and approachable.
Here, you’ll join a workplace where your skills will grow, your contribution will be valued, and your career will feel purposeful again.
It’s such a relief to actually enjoy coming to work, love our team, love our hospital, and love our clients! – Mykeala – Team member

About this role
This is a full-time mixed animal veterinarian position, with a rewarding balance of small animal hospital care and large animal farm visits. No two days will be the same—you’ll move between consult rooms, the surgical theatre, and the open paddock.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality medical and surgical care to small animal patients in our ASAV-accredited Hospital of Excellence
- Conducting farm visits for cattle 🐄, horses 🐴, goats 🐐, and sheep 🐑—including herd health, preventative care, and emergency work
- Building lasting client relationships through clear, compassionate communication
- Managing cases from consultation to treatment to follow-up, ensuring excellent outcomes for patients and clients alike
- Participating in our structured systems of care and communication training to ensure consistency across the team
- Collaborating with colleagues to solve complex cases and share expertise
- The skills and abilities we’re seeking:
- BVSc (or equivalent) and registration (or eligibility) in QLD
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in mixed or large animal practice (though confident, motivated new grads are also encouraged to apply)
- Strong small animal surgical and diagnostic skills, with a willingness to continue learning
- Competence in large animal handling, routine procedures, and equine/farm call-outs
- Excellent communication skills for working closely with both clients and colleagues
- The ability to work independently in the field while contributing to a supportive, team-based hospital culture

About you
You’re more than just a capable veterinarian — you’re someone who brings energy, positivity, and care into every interaction…
✅ You’re a great communicator who knows that listening is just as important as talking.
✅ You enjoy being part of a team that collaborates and supports each other, and you don’t shy away from stepping up when someone needs a hand.
✅ You’re resilient and adaptable, able to handle the unpredictable nature of both farm visits and busy hospital days — all while keeping your sense of humour.
✅ You’re motivated by continuous growth — taking feedback on board, sharing knowledge, and always striving to raise the standard.
✅ You care deeply about patients, clients, and colleagues alike, and you’re proud to be a trusted part of your community.
✅ Above all, you’re looking for a role where your contribution is valued, your work has purpose, and you can feel at home in a team that genuinely enjoys what they do.
