Millpoint Vets

Join a veterinary nursing team where trust, emotional intelligence and genuine support shape the way you work each day. Enjoy a varied role across surgery, consulting and reception, with clients who value high-quality care, a team that wants you to use your strengths and keep developing, and a culture that recognises the importance of rest, balance and enjoying the people you work with.

About us

I have been the owner of Millpoint for just over a year, having purchased the clinic from a now-retired vet who worked sole charge for 23 years with 3 nurses. Over the last 12 months we’ve grown the team to 3 vets and 8 nurses and we’re so proud of what we’ve achieved. We have elevated the standard of care, connected with the existing clients and are regularly seeing new clients also.

Our philosophy at Millpoint is to get the very best out of every employee by learning where their strengths are and harnessing these. We love to see our nurses engaged and thriving in their careers and we love seeing them upskill. We pay well above award and reflective of experience. We typically work in teams, with a consulting team and a surgical team each day, with a receptionist and a hospital nurse also. So our vet:nurse ratio is high which means we can leverage the high level skills of the nurses and support the vet team when needed.

We are always striving to do better, learn more, improve protocols and reflect on feedback. Our team currently have no conflict, and should it arise, my style of leadership is to support the team to have open and brave conversations with each other to resolve any issues. Currently, there is a high level of trust amongst the team and so they really do support each other generously.

Our clients are truly unique. We are lucky to have a business in a highly affluent area, with a high level of insurance and so our clients follow our recommendations without a question or concern with price. It is so rare to have to offer Option B or C as Option A is accepted.

The clinic is well equipped with separate Cat and Dog consulting rooms and kennels/cattery, plus we have a beautiful garden out the back that we perform outdoor consults in for a more low stress approach. We have a fully functioning Idexx lab onsite to provide immediate results when needed (for both blood and urine). We have digital xray, ultrasound, dental xray, im3 dental equipment and a well equipped surgery.

Why are we great to work with… because we trust each other, we do our best, we support each other during challenges and we recognise the importance of rest and recharging.

Millpoint Veterinary has been the medical provider for our cat for the whole of her 18 years. We have always received the best care for her. The recent change of management have taken that standard of care to the next level. Everything is explained clearly and patiently, and options are laid out transparently. Sadly, Millpond also had to assist us in our cat’s final days. Their compassion, and kindness was second to none. We couldn’t have asked for more at this difficult time. – Barbara Fowler

About this role

We ideally need a nurse confident with surgical nursing including anaesthesia monitoring. Confidence with capnography and blood pressure management would be fab. We do run nurse consults for monthly injections, post op checks, nails/AGs and dental checks. Ideally our candidate would be confident with making clients feel at ease, even if they don’t have the answer. We can teach clinical skills, but the ‘softer’ skills of customer service, empathy and social/self awareness are harder to teach, so this is what we’re looking for.

Important clinical skills include confidence with low stress animal handling, catheter placement/blood drawers, dental x-rays, dental scale/polish, thinking ahead to what the vet needs next, attention to detail with set up of equipment for vets (in both consult and in surgery).

We have a thorough clinical position description available on request, however for me, it’s more important we find someone who is kind, trusting, open to feedback and highly accountable. We value emotional intelligence and a high level of initiative and problem solving skills.

About you

As mentioned before, our focus is on emotional intelligence – self awareness, social awareness, empathy, self regulation and motivation. We believe that to have a high performing team we need a high level trust amongst the team – and so we work hard to build trust and positive relationships. We value open communication, accountability and the ability to laugh at yourself!

We love music, coffee, plants and you will even see us implementing elements of feng shui into the clinic to keep the energy positive 🌞

Our location

Como itself it an amazing location, close to the freeway for ease of access, just 7km south of the city. We have a lovely local set of shops with an IGA and a few lunch options (like Subway, Sushi, Noodle bar) and a great local cafe called Hoopla that we regularly order from. Most days we do a coffee run around 1pm to freshen everyone up for the afternoon 😉

Perth itself is just beautiful – amazing weather, blue skies and mild winters.

We have a 13 bay dedicated car park behind the clinic, so very easy to park. The clinic is an old house that was converted into a clinic in 2009. It’s double storey, with a kitchen, office, bathroom and balcony upstair for downtime. We often get comments about how homely and inviting the clinic is and we work hard to make it a lovely space for our team and clients.

Our offer

Hourly wage will be reflective of experience but typically we pay $36/hr for a Level 4 Vet Nurse + super including 4 weeks annual leave (pro rata if part time). We celebrate yearly service with a bonus/gift and involve the team in decisions around how we spend profits (eg new equipment, bonuses etc).
