We are passionate about creating an environment where veterinary professionals can truly thrive—personally and professionally. At AEA, we are committed to continuous improvement in patient care and fostering a culture where learning, innovation, and collaboration are at the forefront. We invest in our people by supporting work-life balance, career development, and creating a workplace that is flexible, engaging, and genuinely rewarding.

About this role

As the Clinical Lead Veterinarian, you will play a pivotal role in driving clinical excellence and supporting the development of our veterinary team. This is a dual-focused role, combining hands-on clinical work with leadership, mentoring, and training responsibilities.

You will act as a trusted advisor and mentor, providing guidance to veterinarians on the floor while role modelling best practice and positive behaviours. Working closely with the leadership team, you will help shape clinical standards, support operational success, and foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture.

Please note this is a permanent role with 32-38hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and uphold clinical excellence through best practice standards, policies, and procedures
  • Provide on-the-floor leadership, mentoring, and support to veterinarians
  • Coach and develop team members through feedback, training, and individual development planning
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and structured induction programs
  • Facilitate ongoing training and ensure clinical knowledge remains current
  • Promote a positive team culture and proactively manage communication and team dynamics
  • Assist with administrative and operational tasks alongside the Practice Manager
  • Deliver high-quality veterinary care including triage, diagnostics, treatment, and surgical procedures

About you

You are an experienced veterinarian with a passion for emergency and critical care, and a natural ability to lead and mentor others.

  • Proven experience in veterinary practice, ideally within emergency or critical care
  • Strong clinical skills with a commitment to continuous learning and evidence-based practice
  • Leadership capability with the ability to influence, guide, and support a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence in decision-making and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • A collaborative mindset and a genuine passion for developing others
  • A positive, resilient attitude aligned with AEA’s values

Our location

Practicing in Bangalow, you will be working in one of the most desirable parts of the NSW North Coast, with Byron Bay only a short drive away and the wider Northern Rivers lifestyle at your doorstep. Think beaches before work, hinterland weekends, excellent food, creative local communities, and a gentler rhythm outside the hospital. It is a region that offers the professional satisfaction of emergency veterinary medicine alongside the space, scenery, and lifestyle balance that make coastal living so appealing.

Our offer

At Animal Emergency Australia, we believe in rewarding and supporting our people:

  • Appealing hourly rate depending on experience ($76.08-$81.51/hr) + Super
  • Work-life balance with flexible rostering options
  • Career progression opportunities within a growing national organisation
  • Ongoing professional development and training support
  • A positive, collaborative workplace culture
  • Access to innovative facilities and equipment
  • The opportunity to lead, mentor, and shape the future of veterinary care
  • Be part of a team that values trust, compassion, integrity, and kindness
