About us
Ultimate Veterinary Clinic is a well-established, purpose-built small animal practice in Melbourne’s south-east, and the reason it works is the people inside it. We run a clinic where support is a structural fact, not an afterthought: workflows designed so good medicine happens without friction, room for real autonomy in how you lead your caseload, and an environment where clinical curiosity gets respected.
Our team is experienced and invested in what we do. Bec, our Practice Manager, came to the role via veterinary nursing and senior technical posts at Royal Canin and Kentucky Equine Research, and brings the operational rigour that holds a clinic together. Paula, one of our vets, trained at the University of Pretoria and joined us in 2017 after a decade across mixed practice in South Africa and England, anchored by advanced surgical training through the University of Sydney. The depth they bring reflects the character of this practice: clinicians who invest in their craft because this is a place worth investing in.
Our clinical range is wide: dermatology, oncology, dentistry, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, and advanced soft tissue surgery in-house, with visiting specialists for ultrasound, endoscopy, and orthopaedic cases. Most cases stay close to home, and clinical depth keeps building.
We are a proud member of VetPartners, Australia and New Zealand’s largest veterinary care network, bringing together more than 270 individual practices and specialty hospitals. VetPartners provides the infrastructure, equipment, and training that allows practice teams like ours to focus on what matters most: the medicine, our patients and their family members. With six dedicated Veterinary Training Centres across the region and a clinical community of more than 1,000 vets, this network offers real support and professional development, while preserving our clinical independence and community roots.

About this role
This is a role for a veterinarian ready to take ownership of clinical direction in a well-resourced GP practice. You’ll set the standard of care across the team, mentor colleagues through complex cases, and partner with our Practice Manager to shape the day-to-day flow of the clinic. The medicine itself spans GP consulting, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and diagnostics, with enough variety to keep the work interesting and enough in-house capability to see most cases through without referral.
Your daily focus:
- Clinical leadership: Setting the standard of care and supporting the team through complex presentations.
- Varied GP caseload: Working across medicine, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and imaging with digital x-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasound, and in-house pathology on hand.
- Mentorship: Developing the clinical confidence of our vets and nurses through structured teaching and case review.
- Operational partnership: Collaborating with our Practice Manager on scheduling, workflow, and team culture.
This role suits an established Lead Veterinarian looking for a better-aligned home, or a Senior Vet with five or more years of GP experience ready to step into leadership with structured support behind them.
About you
We’re looking for a vet who leads with empathy and backs it with clinical capability. You take responsibility seriously, you enjoy the mentorship side of leadership, and you’re the kind of practitioner who raises the standard of everyone around you without needing to announce it.
What we want to see:
- Leadership instinct: You set clinical standards by example and bring colleagues up with you.
- Clinical curiosity: You stay sharp across GP medicine and surgery, and you invest in your own development alongside the team’s.
- Team orientation: You work effectively across vets and nurses, and you know how to share a good working day with the people around you.
- Sense of humour: Our clinic runs on competence and good humour in equal measure. The right person makes both easier to sustain.
Formal requirements: BVSc or equivalent, current registration to practice veterinary medicine in Australia, and a minimum of five years of experience in general practice.
Our location
Narre Warren anchors Melbourne’s south-east corridor, sitting between the CBD’s commuter reach and the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges. Families settle in for established school catchments, strong sporting infrastructure, and Westfield Fountain Gate on the commute home. Couples escape to Dandenong Ranges wineries and walking trails, or the Mornington Peninsula beaches within easy weekend reach. Early-career vets trade inner-Melbourne rent for train access to the CBD and real outdoor space on their doorstep. It’s a suburb built for a full life outside clinic hours.
Our offer
We back our team with a transparent package and meaningful professional support:
- Salary: A competitive salary that reflects your expertise and experience.
- Relocation: Up to $10,000 relocation assistance.
- Visa and sponsorship: Available for eligible candidates.
- Continuing education: $2,000 annual CE allowance plus dedicated study leave.
- Training access: Practical training programs through VetPartners’ Veterinary Training Centres.
- Leadership development: Structured leadership program and ongoing support from an experienced Vet Manager.
- Wellbeing: In-house mental health and wellbeing workshops, plus access to the Employee Assistance Program.
- Lifestyle benefits: Novated lease, salary sacrificing, retail discounts, insurance, and gym perks.
- Team environment: Dedicated team area with kitchenette and coffee machine.
We’re happy to discuss remuneration alternatives that work better for your circumstances. Let’s talk about what fits.
