About us
Mapperley Stud is a third-generation owned and operated thoroughbred stud farm who have been in the business of breeding and raising racehorses for over 60 years raising champions such as So You Think, Dundeel and Brutal. Mapperley Stud is proud to stand three stallions in 2026, headlined by Champion 3 year old Savaglee as well as exciting young sire Armory – a champion son of the legendary Galileo.

About this role
The successful applicant will provide care for the farm’s bloodstock, with a primary focus on the breeding and foaling units. Mapperley Stud works closely with several senior local veterinarians and their support and guidance will be available throughout the season.
This is an exciting opportunity to experience all aspects of stud and general medicine on this renowned Thoroughbred Stud based in Matamata. The stud anticipates foaling down approximately 120 mares, which provides ample opportunity for the successful applicant to gain further knowledge in this area.
This is a fixed term contract for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season between August 2026 and January 2027
About you
Some previous experience in equine reproduction and foal medicine is required. Applicants must be a New Zealand resident or eligible for a New Zealand work visa and have a primary degree registrable with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand.

Mapperley spans over 600 acres of beautiful rolling Waikato country. Large, undulating paddocks are a prime feature at Mapperley and have proven time and time again to be the key ingredient to the success of the many graduates who have won at the top level. Centrally located in the North Island, Matamata is a beautiful rural town with plenty to offer.
