Encounter Bay Veterinary Service

  • Lead clinical direction in a busy coastal clinic entering a new phase
  • Guide an experienced team with structured leadership support
  • Enjoy Encounter Bay coastal living, with Adelaide within easy reach

Lead a busy coastal small animal clinic through an exciting new phase, with scope to stay highly clinical while guiding standards, mentoring your team and developing services around your strengths. With broad GP work, experienced nurses, strong support, major benefits, rare companion animal variety and Encounter Bay lifestyle appeal, this is a leadership role with room to grow.

About us

We are a busy small animal clinic in the coastal community of Encounter Bay, South Australia, just 45 minutes from Adelaide. Our clinic is entering an exciting new phase as some long-standing team members step back, creating a rare opportunity for an experienced veterinarian to help guide what comes next.

You will be joining an established clinic with a loyal client base, a welcoming local community, and a passionate, experienced nursing team. Our hospital is equipped for broad companion animal care, including ultrasound, digital x-ray, full surgical facilities, dentistry, dental health checks, microchipping, emergency and critical care, puppy pre-school, nutrition and weight loss programs, senior pet care, and areas of interest including ophthalmology and dermatology.

The caseload is varied, with patients ranging from cats and dogs through to birds, rabbits, ferrets, reptiles, and pocket pets. For a Lead Vet who enjoys variety, clinical influence, and the chance to help a team move into its next stage, this is a genuinely meaningful opening

We recently moved to Hindmarsh Island from Victoria and after an incident with a stick our border collie, Saffy has had a number of visits to EBV. Every visit has given us so much confidence in the professionalism and kindness demonstrated by all the staff at the clinic. Thank you especially Shaun, Eleanor and Allie for looking after Saffy with such genuine compassion – Paula C – Google Review

About this role

This is a brand-new Lead Veterinarian position for someone who wants to remain hands-on clinically while influencing the future direction of the clinic.

You will mentor and guide the team, support high clinical standards, foster a positive and collaborative culture, and build trusted relationships with clients who value consistent, thoughtful care. The role gives you room to work to your strengths, whether your interests sit in clinical leadership, service development, mentoring, client relationships, or broad GP medicine and surgery.

You will also have the support of the wider support office as you introduce ideas, strengthen what the clinic can offer, and continue developing your own leadership capability in a structured and encouraging environment.

About you

You will thrive here if you are an approachable, capable veterinarian who enjoys both clinical work and team leadership. You bring calm judgement, clear communication, and a genuine interest in helping others do their best work.

You will also bring:

  • A collaborative, team-focused approach to clinical practice
  • A commitment to high standards of patient and client care
  • Confidence across general practice medicine, surgery, and client communication
  • An interest in mentoring, supporting, and developing others
  • A desire to keep learning and continue growing professionally
  • A Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent degree recognised in Australia
  • Ideally, at least 4 years of clinical experience
  • Senior, leadership, management, or broad GP experience, which will be highly regarded

Our location

Encounter Bay offers the kind of coastal lifestyle that can make the working week feel more balanced. With the water close by, open space around you, and Adelaide within an easy 45-minute drive, you can enjoy a more relaxed coastal base without feeling disconnected from the city.

For someone relocating, this is a chance to build a career in a beautiful South Australian setting. For someone already based in Adelaide, the commute is realistic, making the role accessible without requiring a full lifestyle move.

Our offer

This role comes with a strong package designed to support both your move and your long-term career.

The offer includes:

  • Relocation or sign-on bonus up to $10k
  • Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance available
  • Competitive salary with annual performance reviews
  • Lead Vet Incentive, with the opportunity to earn an extra $10k per year
  • Long-term incentive opportunity, with a 10% cash bonus paid at the end of three years
  • Paid Veterinary Board Registration, radiation licence, and VIN membership
  • Generous CPD allowance and paid study leave
  • Novated vehicle leasing options
  • Paid parental leave and Paid Purrental Leave for your pets
  • Wellness support through the Employee Assistance Program
  • Team member referral bonuses
  • Mental Health First Aid accredited workplace
  • Fitness passport
  • Great Place to Work certified employer

This is a role for a veterinarian who wants more than a title. It offers leadership, clinical variety, lifestyle appeal, and the support to make a real contribution to the future of the clinic.
