About us
We are a busy small animal clinic in the coastal community of Encounter Bay, South Australia, just 45 minutes from Adelaide. Our clinic is entering an exciting new phase as some long-standing team members step back, creating a rare opportunity for an experienced veterinarian to help guide what comes next.
You will be joining an established clinic with a loyal client base, a welcoming local community, and a passionate, experienced nursing team. Our hospital is equipped for broad companion animal care, including ultrasound, digital x-ray, full surgical facilities, dentistry, dental health checks, microchipping, emergency and critical care, puppy pre-school, nutrition and weight loss programs, senior pet care, and areas of interest including ophthalmology and dermatology.
The caseload is varied, with patients ranging from cats and dogs through to birds, rabbits, ferrets, reptiles, and pocket pets. For a Lead Vet who enjoys variety, clinical influence, and the chance to help a team move into its next stage, this is a genuinely meaningful opening
We recently moved to Hindmarsh Island from Victoria and after an incident with a stick our border collie, Saffy has had a number of visits to EBV. Every visit has given us so much confidence in the professionalism and kindness demonstrated by all the staff at the clinic. Thank you especially Shaun, Eleanor and Allie for looking after Saffy with such genuine compassion – Paula C – Google Review
About this role
This is a brand-new Lead Veterinarian position for someone who wants to remain hands-on clinically while influencing the future direction of the clinic.
You will mentor and guide the team, support high clinical standards, foster a positive and collaborative culture, and build trusted relationships with clients who value consistent, thoughtful care. The role gives you room to work to your strengths, whether your interests sit in clinical leadership, service development, mentoring, client relationships, or broad GP medicine and surgery.
You will also have the support of the wider support office as you introduce ideas, strengthen what the clinic can offer, and continue developing your own leadership capability in a structured and encouraging environment.
About you
You will thrive here if you are an approachable, capable veterinarian who enjoys both clinical work and team leadership. You bring calm judgement, clear communication, and a genuine interest in helping others do their best work.
You will also bring:
- A collaborative, team-focused approach to clinical practice
- A commitment to high standards of patient and client care
- Confidence across general practice medicine, surgery, and client communication
- An interest in mentoring, supporting, and developing others
- A desire to keep learning and continue growing professionally
- A Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent degree recognised in Australia
- Ideally, at least 4 years of clinical experience
- Senior, leadership, management, or broad GP experience, which will be highly regarded
